Former President Donald Trump was indicted in Washington, D.C., federal court Tuesday afternoon for conspiracy charges related to his effort to overturn the 2020 election results.
Special Counsel Jack Smith said at a press conference that the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol was “fueled by lies, lies told by the defendant, targeted at obstructing a bedrock function of the U.S. government, the nation’s process of collection, counting and certifying the results of a presidential election.”
