'A Late Ambush:' 7th Circuit Rejects Sanctions Against Trump Attorney Sidney Powell

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit on Wednesday rejected the governor of Wisconsin’s request to sanction ex-Trump campaign lawyer Sidney Powell over a failed lawsuit she filed alleging fraud in the 2020 election results.

Judges Ilana Rovner, David Hamilton and Michael Scudder upheld a lower court’s order denying Gov. Tony Evers’ request to recover $106,000 in attorney fees. The panel agreed with U.S. District Judge Pamela Pepper, who said she lacked jurisdiction to consider the state’s motion since it was made two months after the Seventh Circuit issued its mandate upholding the dismissal of the election suit.
